Patriot League Announces 2026 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League Team (5.7.26)

Bucknell closer Hadley Maxwell earns Patriot League Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell senior RHP Hadley Maxwell was named the 2026 Patriot League Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and one of the 13 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Team when the League office announced academic honors on Thursday.
 
Maxwell (markets, innovation and design, 3.52 GPA) collected All-Patriot League First Team honors after posting a League-leading 10 saves, which ranked eighth in NCAA Division I. The Nashville, Tenn. native has been active with Team Impact and will begin his role as a market development analyst with LLR Partners upon graduation. Maxwell is the ninth Bison to earn Patriot League Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the second straight, following former teammate Tyler Dunn, who claimed the accolade last season.
 
Army West Point senior shortstop Thomas Schreck (applied statistics and data science, 3.465 GPA), the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, highlights four two-time Academic All-Patriot League selections. Holy Cross junior OF Gianni Royer (economics, 3.78 GPA) and Lehigh senior C Owen Walewander (accounting, 3.58 GPA) are both Academic All-Patriot League selections for the second straight season. Lehigh senior RHP Cole Leaman (economics, 3.79 GPA) was previously honored in 2024.
 
All six Patriot League baseball programs were represented on the Academic All-League Team, with Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lafayette receiving three selections apiece. Lehigh placed two student-athletes on the academic squad, while Army West Point and Navy each had one selection.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, presented annually at the conclusion of the academic year.

Voting for Patriot League Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-Patriot League Team is conducted by the League’s baseball athletics communications staff. They were prohibited from voting for their student-athletes.

*Maxwell earned First Team All-Patriot League honors after recording a 2.05 ERA, with a League-best 10 saves, ranked eighth in NCAA Division I, including seven in League play.
*The Nashville, Tenn. native holds a 3.52 cumulative GPA as a markets, innovation and design major.
*He converted 10 of his 11 save opportunities, striking out 29 batters in 26.1 innings to help the Bison claim a share of the Patriot League regular-season title.
*The two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection will be a market development analyst at private equity firm LLR Partners upon graduation after a successful internship with the firm during the summer of 2025.

Eight All-Patriot League Selections Make Academic Team
Eight members of the Academic All-Patriot League Baseball Team received All-Patriot League honors when they were announced this week. Holy Cross senior OF CJ Egrie (architectural studies/studio art, 3.35 GPA), the two-time Patriot League Player of the Year, and Army West Point’s Schreck, the defensive player of the year, highlighted the four first-team selections to receive academic accolades. Bucknell’s Maxwell and Lafayette junior C Brandon Doubek (engineering, 3.38 GPA) also earned first-team honors.
 
Four more Academic All-Patriot League honorees received spots on the second team, including Bucknell sophomore 1B Lleyton Coupe (Freeman College of Management, 3.89 GPA), Holy Cross’ Royer and sophomore RHP Jake Lenahan (computer science/economics, 4.00 GPA) and Lehigh’s Walewander.
 
Academic All-Patriot League Team by Class
Six of the 13 Academic All-Patriot League selections are from the senior class, including Army West Point’s Schreck, Bucknell’s Maxwell, Holy Cross’ Egrie, Lafayette RHP James Reese (economics and policy studies, 3.81 GPA) and Lehigh’s Leaman and Walewander.
 
Bucknell RHP Jonathan Adelmann (finance, 3.82 GPA), Holy Cross’ Royer, Lafayette IF Matt Colella (economics, 3.61 GPA) and Doubek and Navy LHP Timmy Virtudes (operations research, 3.55 GPA) highlight the five juniors on the academic squad, with Coupe and Lenahan representing the sophomore class.
