LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 2 Bucknell scored five runs between the second and third innings and held on to down No. 3 Navy, 6-4, sweeping the best-of-three-game Patriot League Championship semifinal-round series at Depew Field at Marren Park on Monday.
Senior LF Michael Trommer went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the seventh inning to provide insurance for the Bison. Freshman RHP Brady Hoar earned the win, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits over 5.2 innings. Senior RHP Hadley Maxwell tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his League-leading 11th save of the season.
Navy sophomore LF Chris Klug went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Mids, while freshman DH Patrick Walsh and junior RF Andrew Manning both had RBI singles.
No. 2 Bucknell will host No. 4 Holy Cross in the best-of-three 2026 Patriot League Baseball Championship Series beginning on Monday, May 18, at Depew Field at Marren Park. The Patriot League Championship Series winner will receive the League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Regionals. LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 2 Bucknell scored five runs between the third and fourth innings and then held off threats from No. 3 Navy later in the game to earn a 6-4 victory and sweep the best-of-three-game Patriot League Championship semifinal-round series.
*Bucknell LF Michael Trommer went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored, while RHP Brady Hoar allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits over 5.2 innings to earn the win.
*Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year Hadley Maxwell of Bucknell tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his Patriot League-leading 11th save of the season, tying Bucknell’s single-season record.
*Navy LF Chris Klug went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Mids, who also had RBI singles from DH Patrick Walsh and RF Andrew Manning.
*The Mids struck first, scoring in the top of the first inning on Walsh’s two-out double to score Klug.
*Bucknell answered in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on two errors, all coming with two outs, as Andrew Swenson, Zach Selfon and Trommer all crossed the plate.
*1B Lleyton Coupe led off the fourth inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly from Swenson, who later scored on a fielder’s choice from Billy Fluharty to put the Bison in front, 5-1.
*Navy responded with a three-run sixth inning, as Tyler Cripe’s sacrifice fly scored Will Howard, Noah Stead scored on an error and Manning singled to center field to drive in Klug, cutting the deficit to one run, at 5-4.
*The Bison added insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Trommer doubled into the gap in right-center to score Fluharty from first base, extending the lead to 6-4.
*The Mids brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two runners on base and two outs in the top of the eighth inning, but Everett Garber registered a strikeout to end the threat. Garber tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit. He struck out three and walked three.
*Navy brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Maxwell induced a ground out to SS Ty Lagoni to clinch the series.
